SYNOPSIS
In the town of Maycomb, there lives Scout Finch with her brother, Jem and her father Atticus, who is a lawyer. Unfortunately, the mother of the Finch residence passed away leaving Atticus as a widow. Dill is a character introduced to the neighbourhood and becomes friends with Scout and Jem. The trio comes across a house that a family seems to live in but has never made an appearance to the outside world. As Scout, Jem and Dill find a deeper interest to wanting to explore this house, Atticus reminds them about the qualities of respect to ones personal space and the fact that judgement cannot be made from looks but can only be determined through first hand experience. As the book continues, Atticus is given a case to defend a man named Tom Robinson who is an African American accused of rape. Living in a community where many citizens are white and in the times of the 1930's, racism was a powerful issue that was present in the lives of many. With Atticus being a white citizen defending Tom from an African background, Scout Finch begins to realize aspects of life and people that she was unfamiliar with before. As the trial continues, Scout is exposed to the harsh stereotypes and comments about colored people.
